Each month, we shine a light on one of our alums in the MSAA Alumni Spotlight to celebrate the incredible individuals who have marched with the Madison Scouts over the years.
Through the story of our monthly spotlighted alum, we’ll learn who they were during their time with the Scouts, who they’ve become today, and the profound impact the Madison Scouts had on their lives. From life-changing lessons learned on the field to lifelong friendships and career-defining moments, the Alumni Spotlight is your chance to see how the Madison Scouts experience resonates far beyond the drum corps season.
Our next alum to enter the Spotlight: Mike Robinson
'82 Picture DayI was a kid from Florida who got lucky when Scott Stewart accepted me into the Scouts in 1981. We had a crew that would drive up to camps... 24 hours each way, It was an honor to do so! after I saw the Scouts on the PBS broadcasts in the late 70's I was hooked! After aging out in 1984 I finished my music education degree at the University of Miami and started my teaching career as a band director (I'm in year 40 now!) I served on the staffs of Suncoast Sound, Cadets of Bergen County, Colts, Carolina Crown, and Boston Crusaders. My teaching career has taken me through the HS ranks with BOA finalist caliber bands and then to the college level at the University of South Florida and the past 17 years at the University of Georgia.
"Always leave everything better than you found it" ~ Scott Stewart
I&E Award Ceremony DCI '82 FinalsI owe everything in my career listed above and my teaching at the DCI, high school and college level to the teaching concepts, personal character, and work ethic I learned in the Madison Scouts. My life would not be what it has been without my experience in the Scouts! I have tried to give back to the Corps by serving on the Board of Directors since 2015 but I still owe a debt of gratitude to all my brothers, staff, and Scott Stewart who taught us all what it was to strive for excellence in everything we did in life. I have lived with this statement my entire life... "Always leave everything better than you found it" I have done my best to do that.... I LOVE the Madison Scouts, MYNWA brothers and sisters!
