The MSAA held elections for leaders to serve on the MSAA board of directors. Nominations were accepted from Nov 1st - Nov 15th, 2022, and current board members volunteered to interview applicants to help make sure every role is filled, and everybody is in a role they're passionate about. We have two new members joining us this year and five returning board members who were up for reelection. We now present the slate of candidates for the approval of the MSAA Voting Membership; voting will be open through December 31st, 2022.

Drew Fowler
Drew Fowler
Drew marched on Euphonium with the Madison Scouts in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021. He was also on staff for the 2022 season as an education admin intern and will be continuing to help out the education team this coming season.
Drew graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2021 with a degree in political science and currently attends law school at the Syracuse University College of Law seeking a joint Juris doctor and master in public administration degree. He hopes to use his skills to assist the alumni in further engaging and supporting the current members.
In his free time, Drew loves to read books, teach high school marching band, and play fetch with his dog Cooper.
Zayra Mata-Velazquez
Zayra Mata-Valazquez
Zayra is originally from Dewitt, Michigan, where she started her band experience on the clarinet. In her junior year, she started her conducting role and became a drum major for the BOA Tournament of Roses Honor Band her senior year. In 2018 she became a member of the Michigan State University BIG Tens section.
In addition to college band, she was a conductor for Legends Drum & Bugle Corps and was a drum major for the Madison Scouts for the 2020 & 2021 seasons. In 2021 she moved to Dayton, OH, to perform with Rhythm X as a visual ensemble member.
She spent the 2022 season with the Madison Scouts as part of their administration team—handling facilities management, educational administration, and taking photos on the side.
Zayra will return to the Madison Scouts for the 2023 season on the Educational Administration team and FPA Events. She is currently working on Events Staff at Music For All and is Admin for Rhythm X.
The MSAA is excited to have these two passionate alumni joining the Board of Directors! We already have great plans started for 2023 and beyond. Reminder: Please vote to approve the board of directors slate by December 31st.
