Doug Tholo is a highly significant figure in the history of the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps, based in Madison, Wisconsin, with a comprehensive background as a performer, drum major, instructor, designer, and administrator. Madison Scouts Hall of Fame - biography:
- Marching Member: Doug Tholo marched with the Madison Scouts from 1971 to 1978. Prior to that, he also marched with the Madison Scouts Boy Scouts (Junior Corps) in 1969 and 1970.
- Drum Major: He served as a drum major for the Madison Scouts, notably in 1978. His leadership and on-field presence as a drum major were well-regarded, with Doug winning "Best DM awards" at several shows on tour that year. He also served as a drum major for the phenomenal 2006 Madison Scouts Alumni Reunion Project (MSARP), 2014 (Macy’s), 2018 (Mardi Gras), and 2020 (Mardi Gras-Part Deux).
- Instructor and Visual Designer: After his marching career, Tholo transitioned into teaching and designing for the Madison Scouts. He wrote the corps' drill (visual design) from 1984 to 1987, making significant contributions to their on-field presentations during that period. He taught for a total of seven years throughout the 1980s.
